Manta

Age: 0-2

Manta is specifically aimed at the very youngest from 4 to 24 months, yet it is a pleasure and delight for the senses of both the young and old. Manta transforms into a poetic dance with 3 musicians.

It's Reigning Cats and Dogs

Age: 2-4

It’s Reigning Cats and Dogs is a fun-packed production aimed at 2- to 4-year-olds. It is a promenade through some of the most well-known melodies played by three woodwind instruments – the clarinet, the oboe and the bassoon – portraying the daily shenanigans of a cat and dog, and their beloved servant, ahem, owner.

Belinda and the Blue Bigilla

Age: 2-4

Belinda and the Blue Bigilla follows Belinda, a hungry three-year-old but nothing can sate her. She is presented with various traditional Maltese treats – from green galletti, to purple pastizzi, pink prinjolata, and, of course, blue bigilla. Still hungry and pretty annoyed, she is finally consoled by a big hug from her mum.

Alma is a poetic and sensory journey through the four seasons, each with a different soul embodied in the objects and materials encountered by the protagonist.

Dreamscape at Home produced by ThinkArts, is an assembly of sensorial experiences for children in a thoughtfully created environment, to allow children to dream and discover an imagined world through a digital arts platform.

H2O Water Magnifico

Age: 5-7

Splish, splash, splosh! Join us on a meandering water journey in a submerged physical world surrounded by colourful inflatable devices. Set on a dry parched planet our performers search for the hydro dream and learn the importance of what there once was. In it, on it, out of it.

When the Colours Ran Away

Age: 5-7

When the Colours Ran Away is a digital storytelling piece about an exciting and most unexpected experience two eight-year-old children have during their trip to an Art Museum. Rumours about a painting with colours the likes of which they’ve never seen before has got them all the more excited.

The Wild Swans

Age: 8-10

The Wild Swans is a musical about courage, betrayal, perseverance and love. This timeless fairy tale transports the audience to the world of Princess Eliza and eleven wild swans as they journey together to overcome a spell cast by an evil Witch Queen.

Uncover/ Discover

Age: 8-10

Uncover/ Discover is a performance based on the adventure of someone trying to release their inner clown. The only way to do this is by first discovering who you truly are; by uncovering the layers laid on you by society and then accepting and loving who you are. With every layer of clown that is discovered, a layer of social construct is shed.

Coco The Singer, The Chocolate Finger

Age: 8-10

Coco the Singer, The Chocolate Finger follows Coco age forty, alone at home with just her flowers for company. Her desperate times had called for drastic measures. What she needed was a makeover. If she were as beautiful and radiant as she had been in her younger years, her popularity would surely return.

We Are Not Islands is a piece of puppet theatre created for video with a clear aim to invite reflection and transformation. It presents viewers with the loneliness of an elderly character and their vital need to reunite with childhood at a time when lockdown has shattered the possibilities of meeting.

GAJAM

Age: 8-10

Gajam is a digital theatre performance suitable for children above the age of 6. The story is set in a space where humans and wild elephants come in close contact.

The conflict begins when man and animal tussle for food and space.

ŻiguŻajg Art Jam

Age: 8-10

ŻiguŻajg Art Jam is about engaging with the arts, thinking critically about visual arts and having fun. Creating an interactive engagement to think and look about visual arts. 

Cristóbal Gabarrón’s first collaboration with the United Nations dates back to 1986. At that time, the flight of that dove that traversed the skies of the earth, carrying in its beak the slogan Our Hope for Peace, was already unequivocally aimed towards hope.

Mitluf Misjub

Age: 8+

Mitluf Misjub is a story about how everyone needs a friend. Someone to work things through with, to share thoughts, or even just lunch during breaks. Unfortunately, Florence (aka Flo) hasn’t been so lucky in that department. Desperate to find that special someone, Flo denies the parts of herself she deems uncool, hiding away her books and crochet plushies in the basement, and replaces them with new, cooler hobbies her potential friends have. And it works!

The Bard's Farewell

Age: 11+

The Bard’s Farewell is set in the year 1611. It’s the day of William Shakespeare’s funeral. Shakespeare’s players, together with his wife Anne, are at the funeral mourning him. If you know your history, you know that Shakespeare didn’t actually die until 1616! Then why is everyone mourning him in 1611? Yes, you guessed it! Shakespeare has faked his own death and is secretly still alive and kicking! He will navigate London undercover!

sitt ġrajjiet u naqra għala spiċċajna (kif spiċċajna), a collaboration between ŻiguŻajg and ŻfinMalta combining movement, poetry, music and more, presents a lyrical take on the big issues affecting young people today. How did we end up here? And what do we do now?

Matthew Bourne’s Nutcracker

Matthew Bourne’s Nutcracker will be our eighth collaboration with Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures, following on from previous cinema releases including Romeo + Juliet, Swan Lake and The Red Shoes. The 30th Anniversary newly designed and re-imagined production features Matthew Bourne’s trademark wit, pathos and magical fantasy.

Felix and The Hidden Treasure

Felix and The Hidden Treasure is an adventurous and heart-warming story for all the family!

Convinced that his father, who disappeared at sea two years ago, is still alive, 12-year-old Felix embarks on a search for him in the company of Old Tom, a retired fisherman; Squawk, a thieving one-legged parrot; and Rover, a cat who acts like a dog.

ŻiguŻajg Festival 2022 collaboration with the
Malta Book Festival

ŻiguŻajg International Festival for Arts Festival for Children & Young People and the Malta Book Festival are joining forces this year! The Malta Book Festival’s programme features a wealth of activities, including book launches, poetry readings and conferences on literary themes. This edition ŻiguŻajg will be curating all shows happening at the Malta Book Festival.

We have prepared a special programme for children who were registered to take part in the Festival with their school. The activities will include morning shows inspired from the 2022 Terramaxka Book Prize winners, and a meet-the-author show where students will have the chance to meet the author of The Boy in The Striped Pyjamas, John Boyne, in person! The dance performance Coco the Singer, the Chocolate Finger will also be at the Malta Book Festival theatre over the weekend.

Sensory-friendly performances are designed to create an inclusive and welcoming arts experience for everyone with or without specific sensory
needs.

 

These sensory-friendly performances will include:
• a social story guide (available on our website)
• sounds that are lowered, especially for startling and loud sounds
• low house lights, no strobe lighting or fl ashes
• an introduction from the performers
• doors open throughout the show
• a chill-out area with sensory toys available
