But I See Beauty & Wonder… shows how art can change the way we see the world. It teaches us to find beauty in places we might not expect, even in things that might seem ugly or scary at first. In our daily lives, we often see things that we don’t like—things that make us feel worried or sad. But when we look at them through art, we can see them in a new way. They can become interesting, beautiful, or even fun!

The artists in this exhibition start with things people usually think are ‘ugly’ or ‘frightening.’ These could be personal struggles or big problems in the world. But through their creativity, the artists turn these ideas into something that shows us wonder, beauty, or fascination.

The idea that beauty is in the eye of the beholder is important here. This means that different people see beauty in different things. Each artist will bring their own way of looking at the world to this theme, and together, they will show us how the line between what’s beautiful and what’s not can blur. This makes us think in new ways and appreciate both sides.

The exhibition is organized by Spazju Kreattiv as part of the ŻiguŻajg Festival, in collaboration with Arts Council Malta. Fabio Viola & Andrea Carpentieri, Willy Verginer, Rebecca Ranieri’s participation is supported by the Italian Cultural Institute of Valletta.

But I See Beauty & Wonder… turi kif l-arti tista’ tbiddel il-mod kif naraw id-dinja. Tgħallimna nsibu s-sbuħija f’postijiet li forsi ma nistennewx, anke f’affarijiet li jistgħu jidhru koroh jew tal-biża’ għall-ewwel. Fil-ħajja tagħna ta’ kuljum, ħafna drabi naraw affarijiet li ma jogħġobniex—affarijiet li jġegħluna nħossuna inkwetati jew imdejqa. Imma meta nħarsu lejhom permezz tal-arti, nistgħu narawhom b’mod ġdid. Jistgħu jsiru interessanti, sbieħ, jew saħansitra divertenti!

L-artisti f’din l-esebizzjoni jibdew b’affarijiet li n-nies normalment jaħsbu li huma ‘koroh’ jew ‘tal-biża’.’ Dawn jistgħu jkunu ġlidiet personali jew problemi kbar fid-dinja. Iżda permezz tal-kreattività tagħhom, l-artisti jibdlu dawn l-ideat f’xi ħaġa li turina l-istagħġib, is-sbuħija, jew il-faxxinu.

L-idea li s-sbuħija tinsab f’għajn min jara hija importanti hawnhekk. Dan ifisser li nies differenti jaraw is-sbuħija f’affarijiet differenti. Kull artist se jġib il-mod tiegħu ta’ kif iħares lejn id-dinja għal din it-tema, u flimkien, juruna kif il-linja bejn dak li hu sabiħ u dak li mhux jista’ jkun mċajpar. Dan jagħmilna naħsbu b’modi differenti u napprezzaw iż-żewġ naħat.

Din l-esebizzjoni hija parti mill-programmi ta’ Spazju Kreattiv u ŻiguŻajg – il-Festival Internazzjonali tal-Arti għat-Tfal u ż-Żgħażagħ, organizzat minn Fondazzjoni Kreattività b’kollaborazzjoni
mal-Kunsill Malti għall-Arti. Il-parteċipazzjoni ta’ Fabio Viola u Andrea Carpentieri hija appoġġjata mill-Istitut Kulturali Taljana tal-Belt Valletta.

Workshop details. Age: 7+

Join us for this workshop, as your children will get hands-on experience creating their own art inspired by the work of Rebecca Ranieri, whose exhibition explores the ‘magic’ of light and how it transforms artworks. Using torches, participants will be able to see how light changes their creations, turning something that may seem ‘ugly’ into something beautiful—just like in the exhibition.

They will also try out fun techniques like using lemon juice and heat to create hidden images, drawing with invisible (UV) pens, and exploring some of Rebecca’s unique methods. As a professional paper conservator, Rebecca brings a lot of knowledge and creativity to this workshop, making it a fantastic learning experience for young artists.

Young ones during this workshop will express their creativity by working with clay to transform their fears or negative feelings. They will take something they see as “ugly, “scary, or “unpleasant” and turn it into something beautiful and unique. The activity encourages your child to express these emotions by shaping the clay into creatures or experimenting with abstract designs.

Through this hands-on experience, they will learn to reimagine and reshape their negative thoughts into positive and empowering creations, all while having fun and exploring their artistic side.

In this exciting workshop, your child will create their own colourful paintings and then use a pen plotter to enhance their artwork, discovering how to blend art with technology. They’ll explore new, creative ways to make art, learning how machines can bring a whole new dimension to their artistic expression.

It’s a fun, hands-on experience that encourages creativity while introducing them to contemporary artistic techniques!
