OKTOMARA (Octopus language) is a word that conjures up fears from our past. To be repeated as long as the need is felt. On the lost island, lives a little girl, alone, haunted by her past in which happy memories, magical fish swimming in the sky, and disturbing black silhouettes are interlaced. The little girl seeks her fragile and shifting balance. Her inner fear invades her and literally becomes monstrous, transforming her into a weird creature – an octopus. Is this transformation an attempt to cope with the violence we have experienced, or… death? What remains in us and what dies to be reborn and survive? Little by little she learns to master her eight tentacles, learns the language of the octopods, and starts to trust the seagull – all this is necessary to regain her shape.

OKTOMARA (Lingwa tal-qarnit) hija kelma li tevoka l-beżgħat mill- passat tagħna. Għandha tiġi ripetuta sakemm jinħass il-bżonn. Fuq il-gżira mitlufa, tgħix tfajla, waħedha, mifnija mill-passat tagħha li fih hemm memorji sbieħ, ħut maġiku jgħum fis-sema u silwetti suwed disturbanti marbuta flimkien. Il-tfajla tipprova ssib il-bilanċ fraġli u li jinbidel tagħha. Il-biża’ ġewwiena tagħha tinvadiha u fil-veru sens tal-kelma ssir mostruża għax tbiddilha fi kreatura stramba – qarnita. Din it-trasformazzjoni hija tentattiv biex tkampa mal-vjolenza li esperjenzajna, jew… il-mewt? X’jibqa’ fina u xi jmut biex jerġa’ jitwieled mill-ġdid u jgħix? Ftit ftit titgħallem tipperfezzjona t-tmien swaba’ tagħha, titgħallem il-lingwa tal- qarnit, u tibda tafda l-gawwi – dan kollu huwa meħtieġ biex terġa’ tikseb il-forma tagħha.
