Evolving Visions with Ġulja Holland

Step into the enchanting world of art with the local artist Ġulja Holland. In this immersive workshop, we will embark on an imaginative journey. Inspired by Holland’s work and artistic process, together, we will envisage a world where humans and animals share our planet more equitably. First with brainstorming and sketching, then with charcoal and acrylic inks, we will bring our unique visions to life on a large canvas.

The final result of this workshop is an integral part of a larger artistic triptych. The collaborative painting made in this workshop will join Ġulja’s works in the Possible Worlds exhibition. All three pieces share a common theme of reimagining a world that addresses pressing climate change issues, inspiring hope and transformation.

Listening to plants with Juliana Espana Keller

Have you ever wondered what sounds plants make? What different voices might they have?

In this workshop, we will join Sound artist & Researcher, Educator, Dr. Juliana España Keller to explore the spaces around us through the materiality or medium? of sound. As sound explorers, we will navigate through the hallways and galleries of Spazju Kreattiv, listening with our ears, our feet, our bodies. When we return to the Possible Worlds exhibition, we will learn how we can listen to plants.Using all of these deep listening tools, and inspired by the sounds around us, we will create our own special soundscape drawings.

Creators of Shadow Worlds with Mario Abela

In this workshop with artist Mario Abela, we will experiment with charcoal, a medium of the natural world and one that Abela uses in his work, Shadows of a Wanderer. 

We will play with line, shadow, texture and form using charcoal, paper and erasers. Then, we will create a large-scale collaborative landscape, drawing inspiration from our natural and manmade surroundings.

Vucijiet Beltin – Play and Costume Design with Kallu

Kallu is a theatre production written and produced by communities of Valletta with support from Kummissjoni Palk – Kumpanija Teatrali Dumnikani Beltin. To develop Vuċijiet Beltin, Kallu worked with year 5 students of Kulleġġ San Ġorġ Preca Primarja Valletta to address excessive gentrification, development and changes in their urban community and to create a piece of forum theatre for critical and creative debates amongst participants.

Following the viewing of Vuċijiet Beltin, we will imagine and create our own character to join the story. Using fabric, beads and recycled materials, we will design and make costumes to wear as our new characters.
